Is St Anton a good ski resort?

For strong skiers, it’s one of the best in Austria. St Anton am Arlberg is the largest village in Ski Arlberg, about 300 km of linked pistes that also include St Christoph, Stuben, Lech, Zurs and Warth-Schröcken. The Flexenbahn gondola completed the circuit in 2016, so you can now ski the whole Arlberg on one pass.

The skiing

The terrain is famously steep. Many reds here would be blacks elsewhere, and a large part of the best skiing is on ungroomed ski routes and off-piste from the Valluga, Rendl and the Schindler Spitze. Intermediates have plenty of skiing too, especially over in Lech and Zurs, but should expect a step up. Beginners are better off in Lech or another resort.

Apres-ski and village

St Anton is a lively village with a pedestrian centre and its own railway station. Its après-ski is legendary, centred on the Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kanguruh on the home run above the village.

Getting there

St Anton is one of the easiest big resorts to reach by train: the station is in the village, on the line between Zurich and Innsbruck. Innsbruck airport is about 100 km away, and Zurich and Munich are both within 3 hours.
